The 5.56mm rounds are rifle ammunition for rifles and machineguns appearing in the game series. Just like other firearm ammo types, those come in AP (Armor Piercing) and HP (Hollow Point) variants.

Types[]

  • 5.56mm Magazine, AP
    5
"These 30 rounds of NATO standard light armor piercing ammunition have the ability to tumble within its target to create a much larger wound than what is normally expected from a such small bullet."

  • 5.56mm Magazine, HP
    5
"This 30-round magazine of 5.56 Remington hollow point ammo is a variation of the civilian .223 hunting round. Like the .223, it is designed to maximize nerve shock and blood loss."

  • 5.56mm Box, 100 AP
    5
"This box contains 100 rounds belt of NATO standard 5.56mm AP ammo."

Usage[]

Locations[]

  • Just about everywhere - even enemies around Omerta may drop one or more (up to four) magazines upon death. They usually carry AP magazines with themselves, only barely HP ones.
  • Military bases and towns.
  • Bobby Ray's Guns and Things

Tips and Tricks[]

  • Buying the ammo at Bobby Ray's Guns and Things in Jagged Alliance 2 isn't worth money, as the ammunition is easy to find on enemies.
  • Four magazines groupped in two per small inventory slot are usually enough for a merc with assault rifle. When using FN Minimi in JA2 v 1.12, it's recommended to carry six magazines of this ammunition.
  • HP rounds are good against Bloodcats and The Hicks. Other opponents should be tackled with AP rounds.
  • Guns fed with 5.56 mm rounds with partially empty magazines can be loaded up with magazine the same type of ammo to full capacity. Two half-empty magazines can be merged into one full magazine through the Inventory window just like Tool Kits.
